George’s sunrise to sunset sponsored cycle
Many of you might be familiar already with Irrigatia’s resident gardener George from his awesome top tips, great advice and behind-the-scenes growing updates! However, George has decided to do something a little different this month; he’s undertaking a sponsored cycling challenge, to raise funds for charity and encourage others to get active and involved too!
George’s challenge
George will be setting off at the crack of dawn on Sunday 20th June – the longest day of the year – and will cycle from sunrise to sunset in support of Thrive charity. During the sponsored cycle, George’s aim will be to get as far as possible during the hours of daylight! The cycle will take place for just over 17 hours during the Summer Solstice.
Why Thrive, and what do they do?
Thrive is a 40-year-old organisation which is passionate about the positive health benefits of gardening and horticulture on the lives of vulnerable individuals living with disabilities, ill health or isolation. The charity uses gardening to positively change many lives, and George couldn’t think of a better charity to support in his fundraising efforts with its shared passion for the positive impacts of gardening.
How can you get involved?
Raising money for Thrive is at the forefront of what George hopes to achieve, and, if you’re feeling generous, you can support him by donating via his Just Giving page. But he's also hoping to encourage lots of other people to get involved and start cycling to fundraise themselves!
Just because George is cycling from dawn till dusk, it doesn’t mean everyone has to! Running, hiking, and even kayaking are just some of the other ways you can get involved an fundraise for Thrive yourself. So, what are you waiting for?
